The Ministry of Construction is optimistic for 2023
Klara Geywitz (SPD) expects that by the end of the year, approximately 500 out of 851 lower building supervisory authorities will be using the new system for digital application submissions. This will allow builders and their architects to upload documents digitally to the authorities. All relevant agencies will have electronic access to the files and can proceed with the approval process. Printed paper-based building applications are gradually being replaced. The end result will be an approval with an electronic seal, aimed at saving time and money. Geywitz believes that a significant acceleration effect will be visible within one to two years. The goal is to process more applications with the same number of employees, given the shortage of skilled workers.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a pioneer:
The project "digital building permits" was launched in Nordwestmecklenburg in May 2019. Since January 1, 2021, building applications in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can be submitted and processed entirely electronically. Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD) stated that all initial issues have been resolved and the system is already being used in 149 authorities. The system from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can also be used in other states, and ten federal states have already joined. Some federal states have chosen a different path and developed their own systems, including Bayern, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hessen, and Thüringen.
