Short-term special regulation for tenants
Rental arrears from the period from April to June 2020 must not lead to an orderly or immediate termination.
This applies if the tenant can credibly demonstrate that he B. has lost earnings. This regulation applies to private and commercial tenancies as well as leases. Other reasons for termination z. B. Personal requirements are not affected. Tenants have until June 30, 2021 to compensate the rent arrears. The Bundestag and Bundesrat had agreed to the federal government to extend the moratorium until September 30, 2020. According to unanimous media reports, this extension is not used.
While the SPD and the tenants' association are in favor of an extension because many difficulties only become apparent with a delay, the Union faction is against it. It advocates protecting landlords and keeping the economic impact as low as possible.
